Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is Glucosamine beneficial for joint problems?
A: Glucosamine Sulfate and Glucosamine HCl are water soluble amino sugars that nourish and strengthen joint tissue. Glucosamine is produced in the body and found in healthy joints. It is a precurser of hyaluronic acid and is a building block of other important joint compounds.

Q: What is the difference between the Glucosamine HCl and Glucosamine Sulfate?
A: Glucosamine HCl uses hydrochloric acid to extract the glucosamine and make the end product stable, whereas Glucosamine Sulfate uses sulfuric acid for the extraction. Both forms of glucosamine are valuable for providing the amino acids needed for healthy joint tissues.

Q: What are the side effects from glucosamine?
A: About 2% of dogs experience gastro-intestinal distress from oral glucosamine supplementation, one of the ingredients in Prosamine. In these dogs, Proanthozone is a good alternative.

Prosamine is available in flavored chewable tablets for Dogs and Cats.

PROSAMINE®

Prosamine is an affordable glucosamine-based supplement designed to provide the nutrients needed to build and restore joint tissues. It also contains vitamins, minerals, and hydroxyproline, which is a scarce amino acid essential for cartilage maintenance. There are many sources and choices for glucosamine products. However, it's important for you to know that quality ingredients, which are safe for animals, are present in the amount shown on the label. Some human and pet joint supplements have been tested and found to be missing a portion or all of the claimed amounts of key ingredients. In addition, human products sometimes contain ingredients that are completely safe for people, but not for animals. Prosamine is a better value than most store brands with guaranteed safety and quality.

What Doctors & Customers say...

May 13, 2005 - "I wanted to tell you how pleased we are with your product, Prosamine. We are three female standard poodles (two are sisters, age three, one is 13-years old). Two of us are on Prosamine - obviously for different reasons. I'm Holly, the 13-year-old and I love to run - (she really thinks she's still a puppy). After walks in the park, my joints tend to be affected. I started taking Prosamine one month ago and I can now enjoy runs in the park. My 3-year old cousin darted after a rabbit and pulled her front ligament. The option was surgery or Prosamine. We went the less invasive way and a year later, she is fit as a fiddle and running after rabbits once again. We anxiously wait for our "vities" each morning and night. We know it's the preventive solution to our problem. Thank you for your miracle, natural solution!" - Min, Meg and Holly (J. Myer, Pennsylvania)

"My Rottweiler, Dixie, is 7-years old and about 95 lbs. She is a wonderful, gentle dog, and my family feels that she is a treasured member of the family. In spite of her fine bloodline, which we checked before buying her, she has been having problems with her hips. Our veterinarian recommended Prosamine, and it has made a big difference. After taking it for a while, she has stopped the constant moaning when she gets up and down and is once again lying with her legs out behind her. We are so glad that the Prosamine helps her. It broke our hearts to know that she was in pain and this has obviously made a big difference to her." - Sam

"My Husky will be 16 this summer. I tried Rimadyl but this was not a healthy solution for her due to an increase in liver enzymes. Consequently, I started her on Prosamine about three years ago and she has been very responsive since." - Craig

"We just wanted to write and thank you for suggesting our 4 year old Saint Bernard Sheba start taking Proanthozone and Prosamine from Animal Health Options. After only three days, we noticed a huge change: she was up and around and obviously much happier and not limping. And she hasn't whimpered since before she started taking the supplements. We have continued with both supplements for 4 weeks now and she is a changed dog. She is back to her puppy self, wanting to run around and play almost all the time. We can't thank you enough and we will be continuing her with the supplements indefinitely." - Fred and Marie, Golden CO

"I started my 15-year old dog on Prosamine four years ago. I crushed the tablet into my dog's food and I began noticing a difference within 24 hours. After starting the dog on Prosamine, Juno started moving his back legs and is now walking again. I do not know what we would have done without Prosamine. My old dog has been doing so well for these past 4 years." - Julia from Sonoita, AZ

"Just a note to tell you how much I love your product. My Boston terrier is about 7-years old. He loves to walk and play ball and was doing a bit of limping. Our vet put him on one Prosamine tablet a day. He is now over 10-years old. He walks at the head of the group and plays ball at least twice a day with no problems at all. We most certainly give the credit to the Prosamine. Thanks for your fine product." - Bonnie

"We live in GA and have a cherished 16-yr old American Eskimo Spitz. About 5-6 years ago, we noticed she was having trouble walking. She had always been extremely active, so we were very concerned. We found a vet who recommended Prosamine. We were very skeptical. The Prosamine has been a true God send! Keesha has improved 100%! She is still a little stiff in the mornings when she wakes up, but she runs and plays like a puppy! We cannot thank you enough for this product as it has changed our lives! I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has an aging friend! It takes a few weeks to see a difference, but it is a large one. My husband recommends this product to his patients for their pets all the time! Thanks again." - Linda & Brian, Georgia

"I rescued my 19-year old Malamute, Popeye when he was 6-months old and he has been by whole life. About three years ago, Popeye had a lot of trouble not only walking, but just standing. My veterinarian suggested that I try giving him Prosamine. I started out by giving him two a day twice a day and he started to show a difference in just three weeks! Now that he is 19 (he'll be 20 in Nov!), he does require about 4 tablets twice a day to keep him going. We've tried to decrease this amount, but he does require this to be able to just get up, let alone walk around. It is wonderful to see him when he gets in his playful moods, though they are not as often as when he was younger (maybe around 16). I am really grateful that my veterinarian suggested the use of Prosamine because I feel that it is a big factor in the longevity of Popeye." - Keith, Illinois

Judith G. van Ryn from Chicago, IL put her dog on Proanthozone and Prosamine and writes, "Our 13 year-old Springer had to be lifted into our truck. Enter the "Super-Pros", as we call them, and a few months later he could leap unassisted from the ground onto the seat of the truck. Thanks for developing the "Super-Pros" and for the joy of watching our now 14 1/2 year-old Springer enjoy a relatively fun-filled life."
